Chapter Eleven

Wesley paced across his office. “I want him back.”

Caden went to the small refrigerator in the room and opened it, yanking out a glass container. The blood inside sloshed with his sharp movements and clung to the sides. “I want him dead.”

“That’s why I want him back. In the three days he’s been gone, I’ve had to put two slaves in isolation. And still I’m sensing defiance and agitation among the others. Sebastian’s little stunt lit a spark in all of them. The fucking idiots. What do they think? More vampire princes with an overinflated sense of morals are going to walk through the door and whisk them all away?”

“Like you said, they’re fucking idiots. You want to get them back in line? The next one who even comes close to showing defiance, you beat their ass within an inch of their last breath and let every one of them watch it. They need to have fear put back into them.” Caden put the container to his lips, chugging half the blood in three gulps. He lowered the container, scrunching his face in disgust.

Wesley shook his head at him. “Cold blood is only good for a little extra flavor to wine. I don’t know how you can drink it straight.”

“Because I can’t satisfy my hunger no matter how much blood I take.”

“It’s because you’re still recovering. He beat your ass bad.”

Caden shot Wesley a glare. “Fuck you. He caught me by surprise. The next shot I have at him, I’m ripping his pretty little head off with nothing but my claws.”

Wesley sat behind his desk. “I’ll hold you to that. I’ve got Benny and a few others scouting for the prince’s home. He can’t be far, not with the way he was coming every night. Once they find his place, I’ll set up watches on it. My guess is the good Prince Valentin is going to let the little bastard run all over, trusting he’ll come back.

“It’ll only be a matter of time before Sebastian steps out on his own. When he does, we’ll catch him and bring him back. I’m not stupid enough to think Valentin won’t come after him. When he does, you’ll have your second shot at him.”

Caden tipped his head back, finishing the last swallow of blood. He lowered the container, wiping his mouth on the back of his hand. “If you bring Sebastian back, you better kill him quick before he gets to the other blood slaves. You’ll end up with an empty house from him riling them up.”

“That’s the plan. Not so much to kill him quick, but to kill him painfully. I want to show every single fucking one of these cattle that their little fantasy of running out the door is just that, a piece-of-shit fantasy. Breaking his body is going to break their spirits. Like you said, fear is the way to keep them in line.
